A novel tissue culture plate for a throughput, 3-dimensional assay for screening of drugs with anti-metastatic activity

BACKGROUND 

Continued spread of tumor cells to the non-malignant sites as a result of metastasis is life threatening and poses major challenge to cancer treatment. Most of the current anti-cancer drugs are cytotoxic and have little-to-no impact on metastasis, which causes 90% of the cancer-related mortalities. Despite considerable investment in cytotoxic drug discovery, their limited use against solid tumors coupled with their failure to prevent metastasis has reinforced the unmet need of targeting cancer invasion.

DESCRIPTION 
Investigators at Stony Brook University have developed a technology that enables high-throughput screening of potential anti-metastatic compounds. This assay system uses a proprietary 3-D invasion plate which is coupled to a basic computer software that allows easy quantification of invasion read-outs for screening compounds. Furthermore our novel 3D matrix invasion assay system are proven to have been simple, fast and easy method to perform relative to other invasion assays.
